2010 UPDATES - The Latest News at Molson Lake
June 26th Update
The action is heating up here at Molson. Nearly every guest in camp has caught a trophy Walleye in the last two days. All the big Walleye are schooling up in the flats. Guests are consistantly catching 25-30 inch Walleye in 5-10 ft. of water. Several guests have caught three or more trophy Walleye including Troy Scholten who caught three in one day! His brother Lafe Scholten landed two Master Angler Walleye, today, within two minutes! The big Northerns are hungry and the Lake Trout are still in shallow water. Stay tuned for pictures!
June 12th Update
Another beautiful day up here at Molson. Sunny skies and warm temperatures have been the norm here the last week. The fishing has been great despite East & Northeast winds dominating the first two weeks of the season. the wind hasn't been blowing that hard, but as the saying goes "wind from the East...fishing is the least...wind from the West...fishing is the best" They are forecasting South to Southwest winds the coming week, which is going to bring sunshine and 75 degrees every day. The first group into Little Bolton caught 47 1/2" and 48" Pike along with other Master Anglers. The Stanley group was at the Max the first few days in June and caught 10 Master Angler Northerns with two being 45 inches. The fishing at Molson has been great with the Lake Trout still on the surface, Walleye in feeding frenzies in "The Flats" and Northern being the fattest we have ever seen them. Below are some photos of a few of the trophies from Max & Molson.
"Here are some pictures from our trip June 1-5 at Max North. We had a great trip! 10 Masters! Thank you for everything! Our flights went as smooth as silk and fishing was great AGAIN!!" Chris Stanley

"Hi Sam, I was just there with John Dorsey’s group and on June 5, 2010, 3:50 pm caught the 43” Northern. Joe was our guide. As promised, I am forwarding pictures we took in the boat. Any questions…let me know. We had a great trip…..thanks!" Larry Stuart

May 23rd Update
I arrived at Molson Lake on May 19th and brought the sunshine with me. It has been sunny and 75 degrees the last few days. Perfect. Our first guests at Little Bolton Lake arrived on May 22nd and SMASHED the lake record the very first day with a 47 1/2" monster Pike! The water level on Molson & the outpost lakes is the lowest I have seen...if previous low water years are an indication...it should be a fantastic year of fishing!

A couple of monster Pike caught during the last few days of August and early September. The Lucke group had another amazing trip, catching these two 47 inch giants, as well as other Master Anglers. In 2008, they caught 48" & 50" Northerns during the same time period.

TROPHY FISHING IN SEPTEMBER
The 2009 season ended with July weather in September! The last week of the season was hovering around 80 degrees and sunny every day. The Pike fishing was fantastic in September and in the last ten days of the season our Master Angler Pike to guest ratio was almost 50% including a massive 45 inch Northern with a huge girth. With the warm weather, our September guests caught the very beginning of the Lake Trout spawn. Stay tuned for more photos from the 2009 season and our next newsletter which will be mailed on Sept. 25th.

Bob Nave, above, with his trophy Pike he caught on Molson Lake - Sept. 16th. MJ Gadanski, below, caught two trophy Pike and this Master Angler Walleye during her four day fishing trip in mid September.

MJ Gdanski, below, with her guide and one of three trophies caught in four days. "Thanks again for a great trip. Besides the fishing, we were impressed with the cabins, staff, boats, transportation in and out of the lodge.....the overall experience. Cowboy was an exceptional guide....very accomodating and fun." MJ Gdanski

July 6th Update
The water is finally warming up at Molson and the outpost lakes. The big Northerns are still in shallow bays sunning themselves. Sight casting has been a blast for our guests since the start of the season. Stories of four footers swimming by the boat are heard most every day. These monsters have been fussy, however, but we are catching a few "Hawgs" as you can see below. The Walleye fishing continues to be fantastic as trophy fish are being caught at both ends of Molson Lake. I have had A LOT of experienced guests who have said that this is the best Walleye fishing they have ever experienced. The Lake Trout are starting their migration to deeper water, however, we are still catching plenty of big ones without the use of downriggers. The weather has been perfect the last week - 70 degrees, sunny, and no wind. More photos to come....

June 26th Update
We were skeptical if we could top the record setting Walleye fishing our guests experienced during the 2008 season. As of today - the 2009 Walleye fishing has already blown last year's record out of the water! The ratio of Master Angler Walleyes to guests, so far, is 92% at our main lodge. In fact, the last three packages have produced an average of 1.85 Master Angler Walleyes per guest. They are not all 28 inch Walleyes, either, 29 and 30 inch Walleye are a daily occurance with the 32 inch Walleye (below) taking top honors, so far. We have had a few other incredible fish that were reported by guests and guides as being in the 32-34 range, but were not able to land them - "The one that got away". Stay tuned for more updates!!

June 15th Update
The Walleye fishing continues to be spectacular at Molson Lake. The Born group of three fishermen that left Molson, yesterday, caught 13 Master Angler Walleyes during their trip! Kyle Kramer is below with his 32 inch Walleye. "Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to ensure each person will have a great time on the water and at the lodge."
Kyle Kramer. The extreme variations in weather continues..it is 85 degrees, right now, with not a cloud in the sky. Beautiful!

June 10th Update
I arrived at Molson Lake on May 23rd - just 9 days after the arrival of our first child. Sydney Grace Fett was born May 14th - 6 lb. 9 oz. - Beautiful! We arrived with 2/3 of Molson Lake still covered with ice. The weather was not kind to us during opening like it was last year. Snow, rain, wind, hail, and cold temperatures hit us every day for the first week. By the first week in June the weather patterns had come back to normal (except for a snow storm on June 4th..ggrrr!) The fishing in the last few days of May and the first few days in June was sporadic due to the cold temperatures and constant weather fronts coming in and going out. We sure made up for it the last week! Fishing has been fantastic on Molson for Walleye, Northern, and Lake Trout. Our guests set an all time record during the 2008 season for number of Master Angler Walleye caught (3 x the previous record!) As of June 10, 2009 - the ratio of Master Angler Walleye caught to guests is at twice the pace of last year! A 32" Walleye was caught, yesterday, along with many 29 1/2 and 29 inch trophies and too many to count 27 1/2 inch Walleyes. The average size Walleye when guests are fishing in the flats is an honest 25-26 inches. The Northern fishing started slowly with below average water temperatures for the first week or two of the season. They are in the shallows now and guests are sight casting them left & right. The Lake Trout fishing has been great with these cold water temperatures...just today we had a boat catch over 50 Lakers in shallow water in just a couple hours. Max Lake is going as strong as ever...The Clark group caught over 20 Pike between 35-40 inches and 5 Master Anglers in one shallow bay in one of the five lakes that ecompass the Max Lake system. The Book party just left Max Lake with 16 Master Anglers with the largest being 47 inches. Stay tuned....more pictures and updates to come....
